Strength

Gilgamesh and Enkidu

Origin: Sumerian

Civilized versus uncivilized; nature versus nurture; animal instincts versus controlled will. It takes strength to integrate or subliminate one over the other - as shown in the Epic of Gilgamesh, and the meeting of Gilgamesh (the cultured king) and Enkidu (the wild man of the forest.) Strength causes them to see beyond their differences and become friends, and strength ensures their wholehearted dedication to their quests and to each other. An ancient story of Beauty and the Beast, the adventures of Gilgamesh and Enkidu demonstrate that inner strength can be an extremely powerful force.
