Nine of Wands
Yamato-takeru
Origin: Japanese
After a long and arduous battle, the brave warrior-prince of ancient Japan sheathes his sword and takes some time to recuperate after his efforts. His clothing is spattered with the blood of his enemies, and he wears a bandage over an injured right arm. Yamato-takeru's mournful face belies his knowledge that the rest from fighting cannot be long - before he has had time to fully recover he knows his father, the Emperor, will send him on another mission in which he will risk his life again. Although he sheathes his sword, the flames of battle still roar around him. Above, his future looms: a visit to his wise aunt, who will bequeath him a sword and bag to aid him on his next mission. Without these items, Yamato-takeru is doomed to failure.
